This project was inspired by a personal, life-changing event that occurred several weeks into the final semester. My father was diagnosed with cancer, an experience that is all too common, with recent studies showing that one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in the UK (World Cancer Research Fund, 2024). Yet, nobody ever thinks it will happen to them. Watching a loved one try to explain to their family their diagnosis inspired me to come up with a way to make this experience a little easier for those affected by cancer, especially for those with children and young people involved.

Sustainable Development Goals

The service’s three Sustainable Development Goals:

• Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-Being - The service will aid children, young people and their parents or guardians who have been affected by cancer with the ability to keep track of the treatment process, support their mental health and encourage physical activity within their capabilities, through achievable goals.
